Women's Soccer Closes Season in ECAC First Round

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Cabrini women's soccer team closed their 2019 campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss at top seeded Springfield College in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) First Round.

The Pride offense finished with an 18-13 advantage in shots, including an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal, while the two teams finished with five corner kicks each.

Senior Katelyn Gilinger finished with a team high four shots, while classmates Maddy Wojton and Diana VanSickle notched a pair of shots each. Springfield's Kaleigh Dale tallied a game high eight shots, with four landing on frame, and added a helper on the game's lone goal.

The Blue and White nearly got on the board on their opening possession as VanSickle was met with an open look from just outside the six yard box, but pushed the ball just over the crossbar.

Springfield didn't wait long to capitalize as Mackenzie Luiz put the hosts on the board in the fourth minute of play from 18 yards out.

The Cavalier attack kept pressure on the Pride as they tallied six shots across the remainder of the half, including a strike off the crossbar, but the 1-0 score would hold true.

The second half continued to an even battle with both defenses making key plays to fend off the opposition. Junior netminder Ashley Tutzauer made a key save on a partial breakaway to keep the Blue and White within striking distance.

The Cavs nealry drew even in the 86th minute off a shot from sophomore Kelly Kane, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar from 12 yards out.

Springfield would hold on for the aforementioned 1-0 victory and will advance to the ECAC Second Round. Tutzauer would finish the game with seven saves, while Springfield goalie Caitlin Normoyle matched Tutzauer with seven saves of her own.
