INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Cabrini Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR)
Dr. Seth Frechie was one of just 30 FARs around the country selected to attend the 2019 Division III FAR Fellows Institute at the NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis on Oct. 18-20.
The institute attendees participated in a three-day professional development program. The components of the program explored best practices and issues surrounding the role and responsibility of the FAR, helped FAR Fellows develop the leadership skills necessary to carry out their responsibilities on campus and in their conference, and strengthened the national network of FARs serving on divisional and Association-wide committees.
Among the topics discussed were FAR relationships with on-campus constituents and conference commissioners, as well as emerging Division III governance and compliance concerns.
In order to be selected, FARs were nominated by their Commissioner, Director of Athletics, or University President. Criteria for attendance included at least two years' experience as a DIII FAR, evidence of positive leadership qualities, a clear ability to affect change at the FAR's home institution, and a willingness to complete a 360-degree leadership assessment.
Dr. Frechie reported that, "My invitation to attend the Institute represented my first visit to the NCAA national headquarters. The leadership training was incredibly comprehensive and will serve Cabrini University in my work to promote academic culture within the Athletics program. It was an honor to have been selected to participate this year."
