Women's Basketball Falls to Saints in Regular Season Finale

ARLINGTON, VA - The Cabrini women's basketball team had their 10 game win streak snapped this afternoon after falling to the hosting Marymount University Saints by a 66-50 final.

With the loss, the Cavaliers move to the second seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament, while Marymount secured the No. 1 seed.

Sophomore Kate Lannon led the offense with a team high 13 points, while Ashley Tutzauer was right behind her classmate with 12 points. Junior Meghan Matthews added six points and four rebounds, but was limited to just 16 minutes due to foul trouble.

The Blue and White got off to a slow start as the Marymount defense limited the Cavs to just 2-for-11 from the field in the opening 10 minutes. The slow start resulted in an early 12-5 deficit after one quarter of play.

A Tutzauer three early in the second quarter briefly trimmed the Saints' lead to 13-8, but an 8-to-4 response from Marymount pushed the Saints' lead to 21-12. Marymount's Katie McShea and Tyffani McQueen delivered back-to-back triples with under a minute left in the half to give the Saints an eventual 31-16 lead at the break.

The second half featured a more balanced offensive attack from the Blue and White, highlighted by a 47 percent mark from the field in the fourth quarter, but the Marymount attack continued its' consistent play. The Saints shot a combined 48 percent from the field in the second half and committed just six turnovers to the Cavaliers' nine.

The turnaround wouldn't be enough, unfortunately as Marymount was able to fend off the late Cavalier charge for the eventual 66-50 victory.

McShea and McQueen paced the Marymount offense as they combined for 42 of their team's 66 points, while also chipping in nine rebounds.

Following today's action, the Blue and White wrap up with regular season at 16-9 overall and 11-1 Atlantic East play. As mentioned, they will enter the AEC tournament as the No. 2 seed where they'll host the winner of No. 4 seeded Neumann and No. 5 seeded Immaculata on Wednesday, February 20th. A game time has yet to be announced. C
