ST. DAVIDS, PA - The Cabrini baseball team cruised to a comfortable 13-1 victory over the Eastern University Eagles in today's regularly scheduled contest.
The Cavaliers also finished their previously suspended extra inning game against the Eagles before today's 3pm game. The Blue and White ultimately fell in the 11th inning as Eastern pushed across an unearned run to take the 6-5 final.
As mentioned, however, the Cavaliers rebounded in their regularly scheduled game and were led offensively by junior
Henry Peguero. The backstop finished the day 2-3 with two RBI's and a run scored. Peguero was one of five Cavs to record two hits.
Sophomores
Mack McKisson (2-4, 2R, 1RBI) and
Justin Henry (2-4, 1R, 1RBI), along with juniors
Juan Familia (2-4) and
Chris Santana (2-2) rounded out the Cavaliers with two hits. Freshmen
Garrett Laraia (1-1, 3R, 2RBI, 1SB) and
Brandon Loner (0-3, 2RBI), as well as sophomore
Steven Priest (1-5, 2R, 2RBI) all collected two RBI's.
The Blue and White received a strong start on the bump from junior
Kyran Weemaels who tossed seven shutout innings and allowed just five hits, while striking out six. The victory was his second of the season.
Cabrini jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning thanks to an RBI single from McKisson and a pair of sac flies from Henry and Loner. An RBI single from Peguero capped the inning for the Blue and White.
The Cavaliers added a run in the second and two in the third to push their lead to a comfortable seven runs in the early going and busted the game open in the sixth following a four run inning. Priest started the rally with a deep double to right center to plate McKisson and Laraia, while Peguero followed with another RBI double to right center to bring home Henry. An RBI ground out from Loner capped the Cavs' scoring in the inning.
Cabrini would go on to add two more runs in the top of the ninth and cruise to the eventual 13-1 final.
Following today's pair of games, the Cavs move to 11-4 overall. They will look to keep things rolling on Friday, March 22nd when they host the Dickinson College Red Devils at Cabrini Carroll Field. First pitch for Friday's non-conference matchup is slated for 3:30pm.
