Softball Drops its Atlantc East Openers at Neumann

ASTON, PA – The Cabrini softball team opened Atlantic East Conference action today, with a pair of tough losses at Neumann University.

The Cavaliers struggled to find their offense in the opener, before making a seventh inning rally before falling in extra innings.

Game 1: Neumann 3, Cabrini 0
The Cavaliers never found their offensive rhythm in the opener, as the Blue and White recorded just two base runners in the loss. Freshman Faith Pitsikoulis drew a first inning walk, while sophomore Amber Seamen's fourth inning single marked the team's only base hit.

The Knights took advantage, scoring a single run in the first and a pair in the third.

Freshman hurler Grace Stairiker scattered six hits and struck out three Knights in the loss.

Game 2: Neumann 7, Cabrini 6
Both teams took a few innings to find their offense in the nightcap, but it was the Knights who struck first, tallying an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning.  Neumann looked to build an insurmountable lead in the fourth, as it strung four singles together to score three runs.

The Blue and White bats woke up in the sixth with its first two runs of the afternoon. Sophomore Olivia Young reached on a one out double, before scoring on a Seamen two-bagger down the left field line. The sophomore advanced to third on a fly ball before scoring on a single by freshman Allison Martin.

Neumann got one of the runs back in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of a Cabrini infield error.

Facing a 5-2 deficit and down to its final three outs, the Cavaliers made their comeback.

Sophomore Jess Redding opened the frame with a bunt and advanced to third on a single by sophomore Aysiah Cintron. Back to back RBI singles by Young and Seamen scored both Redding and Cintron.

Martin's two out single plated Young, evening the score at 5-5. A single by junior Alexandra Schell loaded the bases with two outs, but a ground out stranded al three runners.

Sophomore pitcher Casey Scheuren shut down the Knights' offense in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

The Cavaliers struck first in the top half of the frame, as senior Darian Caputo's two out single scored sophomore Carolyn Alcantara, who opened the inning on second.

The Knights had an answer, recording two runs on three hits, including a one out, walkoff infield single to end the game.

Seamen led the Blue and White in the loss, going 3-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Young, Martin and Schell had two base knocks each.  Scheuren suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs over 7.2 innings with a pair of punch outs.

The Blue and White (12-12) will return to Cabrini Field on Wednesday, as they play host to former Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Keystone College (7-11). First pitch is slated for 3pm.
