Baseball Open's AEC Tournament First Round With Split

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini baseball team took a 13-2 decision in game one against Wesley, but dropped their second game of the day against Immaculata to open the 2019 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Tournament.
 
Game One: Cabrini 13, Wesley 2
The No. 1 seeded Cavaliers struck for 13 runs on 14 hits against the No. 4 seeded Wesley College Wolverines to take the AEC Tournament's opening game.

The offense was paced by senior Tyler Norris who finished the day 3-3 with five RBI and four runs scored. The veteran finished just a single off the cycle to highlight the offensive outburst.

Junior Henry Peguero nearly matched Norris with a 3-4 effort and four RBI's. Sophomore Mack McKisson rounded out the Cavs with multiple hits after tallying three hits, including two bunt singles.

Freshman Jonathan Baker toed the rubber for the Blue and White and picked up his third win of the year after a strong outing. The rookie tossed seven innings of two run ball, scattering seven hits and striking out three. Sophomore Jack Hollis and junior Drew Jackson combined for the final six outs out of the pen to close out the game one victory.

The Cavaliers struck first thanks to an infield single from Peguero in the bottom of the second. They quickly doubled their lead in the third after Norris roped a double down the to plate McKisson. Junior Shaun Stackhouse followed with a double of his own to push the lead to 3-0, while Peguero capped the inning with a two RBI single up the middle.

Wesley responded in the top of the forth with a solo homerun and an RBI single to trim the Cavs' lead to 5-2.

It would be all Cabrini the rest of the way, however, as they struck for five runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the eighth to balloon their lead to 13-2. Norris' bases clearing triple in the eighth highlighted the Cavs' big fourth inning.

Game Two: Wesley 11, Immaculata 8
The Wolverines mounted a late comeback to rally for the 11-8 victory to stay alive. The visitors pushed across seven runs after the sixth inning to complete the comeback, highlighted by a four run ninth inning.

Jordan Marucci tallied a game high four hits and four RBI's, while Jason Boc matched Marucci with four hits of his own. Drew Sutton collected the victory on the mound for the Wolverines after throwing three shutout innings and surrendering just a pair of hits.

Immaculata's Zach Smiley was saddled with the loss after allowing two runs in the ninth inning.

Tyler Kmiec led the Mighty Macs with a team high three hits and three runs scored, while also chipping in two RBI's.

Game Three: Immaculata 28, Cabrini 5
The Mighty Macs rebounded in the day's third game as they took a 28-5 victory over the Cavaliers. A six run fourth inning followed by a nine run fifth inning backboned the win for the No. 4 seeded Macs.

Richard Fontanillis did a majority of the damage for Immaculata as the outfielder finished 4-6 with three home runs and eight RBI's.

McKisson and junior Chris Santana highlighted the offense for the Blue and White as each clubbed two run homeruns to right and left field, respectively.

Starting pitcher Billy Manzo went the distance for the Macs as he scattered seven hits and allowed five earned, four of which came in the final two frames. The righty struck out seven.

Junior Kyran Weemaels was saddled with the loss, his first of the season, after allowing five earned in 3.2 innings.

Following today's action, all three teams remain alive as they own matching 1-1 records in the double elimination First Round. The Mighty Macs and Wolverines will open tomorrow's slate at 11am. Cabrini will take on the winner of Immaculata and Wesley in a decisive game five at 2pm. The winner of tomorrow's game five will advance to next weekend's AEC Final Round.
