PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Cabrini men's tennis team entered the history book today, as the Cavalier became the first ever Atlantic East Conference men's tennis champions.
The Blue and White captured its third consecutive conference title today with a 5-0 win over Neumann at Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelphia. The title marks the sixth conference championship for the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers got off to a great start, claiming victories in all three doubles matches.
Sophomores
Ben Meade and
Nick Falcone scored an 8-3 win at No. 1 singles, while the No. 2 duo of junior
CJ LaMantia and sophomore
Vince Paetow cruised to an 8-1 triumph.
The No. 3 doubles match was tightly contested through the final point, as juniors
Nick Tilley and
Matthew DeMaria teamed to claim an 8-6 win.
Needing to win just two of the six singles matches, the Cavaliers wasted little time in closing the day's action.
Tilley, who was also named Tournament Most Valuable Player, carried the momentum from his doubles win into his No. 2 singles match, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win.
At number four singles, Falcone was just as dominant, scoring a 6-1, 6-1 win.
The title caps an 11-4 season for Cabrini, including 4-0 in conference play, extending the Cavaliers conference win streak to 18 matches.
