Men's Soccer Falls to Randolph-Macon in 90th Minute

RADNOR, PA – The men's soccer teams from Cabrini and Randolph-Macon played 89 minutes of even soccer today at Edith Robb Dixon Field, but the 90th minute proved to be important, as RMC scored the game's final goal with just a few ticks left on the clock.

The 3-2 defeat dropped the Cavaliers to 2-2 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-1.

Sophomore Nick Booth put the Cavaliers on the board in the 17th minute, as the sophomore's corner kick service curled inside the far left post.

Despite surrendering five first half corner kicks, the Blue and White carried its slim lead into the second half.

RMC got on the board in the 54th minute, as junior Ruben Niamien converted a penalty kick.

Cabrini jumped back into the lead in the 72nd frame when a loose ball inside the penalty area found its way to sophomore Jonathan Owens. The Yellow Jackets clawed its way back to even in the 83rd minute.

Both teams pressed to grab a late lead, with both clubs creating solid scoring chances.

A late foul on Cabrini crated the final chance of regulation. In the 90th minute, a RMC free kick sailed into the Cabrini penalty area, where freshman Penny Senior tapped the ball into the net for the game-winner.

The Yellow Jackets built a 15-6 advantage in shots, while forcing eight corner kicks to just two for the Cavaliers.

Junior goaltender Anthony Zampirri suffered the loss despite recording a pair of saves.

The Cavaliers will hit the road next week, as they will visit Rutgers-Camden (4-0) on Wednesday. Game time is slated for 7pm in Camden, NJ.
