RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team stayed hot this afternoon as they collected their fourth consecutive victory following a 67-44 final over the Neumann University Knights.
Junior
Kate Lannon highlighted the contest as she became just the 13th Cavalier in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau following a basket midway through the fourth quarter. In total, the Aston, PA native tallied 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists to help lead the Blue and White over her hometown Knights.
Classmate
Ashley Tutzauer added 16 points, six steals, and four rebounds in 21 minutes, while senior
Meghan Matthews rounded out the Cavaliers in double figures with 14 points, 14 rebounds and six assists for her second double double of the season.
Following a sluggish opening eight minutes in which the Cavs held a narrow 10-9 advantage, Cabrini rattled off a 9-0 run to end the quarter. Five consecutive points from junior
Lexi Edwards capped the Cavalier spurt and handed momentum to the hosts heading into the second stanza.
Neumann would stop the bleeding on their opening possession of the ensuing quarter thanks to a jumper from Kiara Stovall. Stovall delivered a matching jumper again less than two minutes later to trim the visitor's deficit to six points. A triple from sophomore
Dani Tyrell, however ignited a 13-2 run in favor of the Cavs that spanned over five minutes of play. The Blue and White would head into the intermission carrying a 35-19 lead.
Cabrini would continue to add to their lead in the second half, ballooning their cushion to a game high 25 points midway through the fourth quarter and coast to the eventual 67-44 final from there.
The Cavalier defense continued to give their opponent fits as they limited the Knights to just 28.3 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from beyond the arc, while also finishing with a 47-36 advantage on the glass.
Neumann's Terea Hunt led the visitors with a team high 16 points and seven rebounds, while Stovall added 15 points.
Following today's victory, the Cavs improve to 15-5 overall and 7-0 in Atlantic East Conference (AEC) play. They will put their conference record on the line next time out when they travel to Arlington, VA to take on Marymount University in a battle of the top two teams in the AEC standings.
