Game Recap: Basketball (Women) |

Defense Paves Way to 65-40 Victory Over Pacers

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team collected win number 17 this evening following a dominant defensive performance en route to a 65-40 wire-to-wire victory over Marywood University.

The Cavalier defense limited the visitors to just 19.7 percent from the floor, including 15.8 percent from beyond the arc, while forcing 17 turnovers. Marywood's field goal percentage is the lowest allowed by the Cavalier defense this season.

Offensively, the Blue and White were paced by junior Ashley Tutzauer's 18 points. Classmate Kate Lannon was the only other Cavalier to reach double figures as she tallied 10 points in 12 minutes of action. Nine other Cavs marked the scoring column, highlighted by senior Meghan Matthews' six points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

Cabrini did the majority of their damage in the opening stanza as they outscored the Pacers 28-10. Lannon opened the game with a triple from the top of the arc and added a layup just a minute later for an early 5-2 advantage. A jumper and triple from Tutzauer pushed the Cavs' lead to 10-4 at the 7:35 mark.

Following a Marywood jumper form Savannah Purdy, Cabrini rattled off a 7-0 run that was capped with another three ball from Tutzauer. The Pacers would pull to within seven points at 17-10, but an ensuing 11-0 run pushed the Cavalier lead to 18 points as freshman Sydney Kesselman ended the quarter with an exlamation point thanks to a three pointer with six seconds remaining.

The Blue and White continued to add to their lead in the second quarter, courtesy of a 10-4 spurt, as they ended the half with a 44-21 advantage.

Cabrini totaled only 21 points in the second half, but a strong defensive third quarter in which the Cavs allowed just two field goals helped keep the Pacers' comeback hopes at bay.

Marywood was led offensively by Olivia Kosin who tallied a team best 12 points and 14 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass.

Following tonight's victory, the Cavaliers improve to 17-6 overall and 9-1 in Atlantic East Conference play. They will look to run their win streak to three when they travel to Dover, DE on Wednesday, February 19th. Tip off is set for 6pm.
