ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Cabrini softball team claimed Eagle Road supremacy today, as the Cavaliers scored a pair of wins at Eastern University.
Senior
Carolyn Alcantara drove in the game-winning run in the opener, before the Blue and White found its offense late in the nightcap, improving Cabrini to 8-6 on the season.
Game 1: Cabrini 3, Eastern 2
The Cavaliers opened the scoring with a two out rally in the second inning. Sophomore
Emily Wargo's double to left center scored classmate
Kaitlyn Martin for an early 1-0 lead.
Cabrini maintained its slim lead until the sixth inning. Junior
Jess Redding opened the frame with a double, before scoring on a single by classmate
Amber Seamen.
Eastern got one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth, then added a run in the bottom of the seventh to even the score at 2-2.
The Blue and White wasted little time in regaining its lead, as Alcantara's one out single plated sophomore
Kadirah Williams.
Sophomore pitcher
Grace Stairiker shut down the Eagles' offense in the bottom of the eighth, sitting Eastern down 1-2-3 to seal the victory.
Five Cavaliers combined for the club's five base hits, while Stairiker allowed two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
Game 2: Cabrini 7, Eastern 1
The Eagles grabbed am early, using three singles to take 1-0 lead after two innings.
That was all the offense junior pitcher
Casey Scheuren would allow. The junior hurler only allowed four hits over the game's final six innings, with just two Eagles advancing to second base.
The Cavaliers struggled to find their offense until the fourth inning. Seamen reached on an infield error and advanced to third on another Eastern miscue before scoring on a single by sophomore
Allison Martin. Junior Aysiah Contron's sacrifice fly then plated classmate
Olivia Young to put Cabrini ahead for good.
Cabrini added another crooked number in the fourth, as senior
Alexandra Schell's one out triple scored Redding. The senior crossed the plate one batter later on sophomore
Kaitlyn Martin's sacrifice bunt.
The Blue and White dashed any hopes of an Eastern comeback in the seventh with three run son three hits.
Cabrini's first three batters reached before Young's double to left center drove in Schell and sophomore
Danielle Miller. Three batters later, Young crossed the plate on Alcantara's single up the middl.
Young led Cabrini with a 3-4 performance with to RBI and two runs scored, while five other Cavaliers recorded a base knock. Scheuren allowed just one earned run on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts in the victory.
