Balanced Scoring Leads to Men's Basketball Win over Arcadia

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's basketball team rebounded from Thursday's disappointing loss to Eastern to score an 80-65 victory over Arcadia University today at Nerney Field House.

Five Cavaliers scored in double figures today, led by sophomore Aquil Stewart's 18 points.

Freshman Marquis Tomlin connected on 4-5 from beyond the three point line, en route to a season high 14 points.

Sophomore Josh Jones recorded his second double-double of the young season, pairing 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Senor Ryan Byars added 13 points, five rebounds and three steals. Junior Christian Lane chipped in with 10 points and matched senior Billy Warren with four steals.

The Blue and White set the tone in the opening seconds, forcing turnovers on Arcadia's first two possessions to build a quick 6-0 lead.

The Knights regained their footing and took a slim 9-8 lead, but the Cavaliers responded with a 11-1 spurt, as a Lane triple put Cabrini ahead 19-10 with 12 minutes left in the first half.

The home team led by as many as 15 points in the first half and carried a 37-27 advantage into the halftime break.

Despite shooting just a tick over .370, including 3-9 from three pint range, in the first half, the Cavaliers remained in control of the action after turning 15 Arcadia turnovers into 17 points and committing just four miscues.

Cabrini led 45-31 after a Stewart three with 15:53 left when Arcadia made its move. Over the next six minutes, the Knights used a 17-4 run to pull within jumper by senior Jared Chambliss.

The Cavaliers balanced scoring paid dividends over the next 2:45, as four Cavaliers combined for an 8-0 run, pushing the lead back to 57-48 at the 7:08 mark.

Minutes later, Tomlin connected on a pair of threes in a 10-2 spurt that pushed the Cavaliers' lead to an insurmountable 14 points with 3:34 to play.

Cabrini's 80 points marked a season high, as did its eight made three pointers, 18 steals and 30 forced turnovers, while its 16 turnovers are the second fewest in a game this season.

Junior Jalen Watkins had a monster game for Arcadia (0-6), pairing 18 points on 7-9 shooting with 23 rebounds, just eight fewer than the Cavaliers.

The Blue and White will look to start a new win streak on Tuesday, when they welcome Rosemont College to Nerney Field House. Game time is set for 7pm.
