NEW YORK, NY - The Cabrini University women's basketball fell behind early and could not recover as the New York University Violets ran away with a 79-43 home victory.Â
Junior guard Leila Collazo paced the Blue and White offense with a team high ten points off the bench in 24 minutes of action. While graduate student Ashley Tutzauer and senior Dani Tyrell contributed seven points apiece. Gianna Rullo had a game high nine rebounds, while Kai Williams tallied a team best two assists.Â
The Violets opened the game with a 16 point run over the  first five minutes before Collazo hit a jumper to get the Cavs on the board, 16-2. The Cavaliers offense struggled to respond shooting just over 21 percent from the field as the home team opened up a 29-6 lead by the end of the first quarter on 12-17 shooting from the field.
The offensive woes continued into the second quarter as Cabrini went just 2-16 from the field. The quarter was highlighted by an 11-5 run in which the Cavaliers picked up six of a possible seven points from the charity line to make it 38-21. NYU picked up 22 points in the second as they went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc to head into the break with a commanding 51-17 advantage.
The Blue and White picked up the pace coming out of the break matching the home teams intensity as each team went back and forth adding nine points apiece to their respective totals, capped by one of Abby Paolini's team high two treys on the day, 60-26. The Violets put the game out of reach with an 8-2 run to close out the third frame, 68-28.
The Cavaliers outscored the home team 15-11 over the final 10 minutes of regulation but it was too little too late as the Violets reigned superior, and improved to 6-0 on the season with the aforementioned 79-43 victory.
The Violets' Natalie Burns led all scorers with 18 points and five rebounds. Belle Pellecchia added 12 points and three rebounds, while Taylor Huff rounded out the scorers in double figures with 11 points.Â
Following today's setback, the Cavs move to 2-3 overall. They will look to get back in the win column on Friday, December 3rd when they travel to Williams College for kickoff the Williams College Invitational with tip-off set for 6PM.
