RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team left no question about its dominance in the Atlantic East Conference this season, as it capped its season with a 4-0 win over Neumann today at Edith Robb Dixon Field, claiming the program's 11
th conference title and first since 2017.
The club's eighth consecutive victory improved the squad to 13-4-2 on the season and secured the league's automatic bid into next week's NCAA Tournament.
The Cavaliers will learn their tournament fate on Monday at 1:30pm, when the NCAA broadcasts its Div. III Selection Show on
NCAA.com.
The Cavaliers got on the board in the 23
rd minute when a loose ball fell to sophomore
Nolan Holloway for a half volley into the back of the net.
Cabrini wasted little time adding to its lead, as senior
Tyler Jankowski scored his sixth goal of the season just five minutes later
The Cavaliers carried their 2-0 lead into the halftime break, after outshooting the Knights 7-1.
The Blue and White showed no let-up in the second half, as sophomore
Nick LoBiondo scored his team-leading 10
th goal in the 57
th minute, after collecting a pass from junior
Matt Duddy.
Six minutes later, senior
Christian Rafter added his name to the score sheet, turning a pass from Championship Game Most Valuable Player
Josh Cunningham into his third marker of the season.
While the Blue and White offense was hitting on all cylinders, Cabrini's defensive effort controlled the Knights from the opening whistle. The Cavaliers held the Knights to just four shots, Neumann's second fewest of the season.
Sophomore goaltender
MJ Graham was called on for just one save to record his third consecutive shutout and run his record to 10-0 on the season.
Rafter accounted for four of the Cavaliers' 15 shots in the win, with Jankowski, Holloway and junior
Nick Gaspari adding two each.
