Men's Basketball Falls to Wm. Paterson in WestConn Tourney Opener

DANBURY, CT – After nine days off for the Christmas break, the rust showed tonight as the Cavaliers shot just .344, their second lowest percentage of the season, in a 71-56 loss to William Paterson at the Western Connecticut University Holiday Tournament.

Freshman Donoven Mack led the Blue and White with a season best 17 points, connecting on five three pointers. Senior Billy Warren paired 14 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Marquis Tomlin added 10 points.

Senior Brice Parks added nine points, eight boards and a pair of steals, while classmate Ryan Byars secured a team-high 10 rebounds.

Cabrini fell behind in the early minutes, but used an 11-3 run midway through the first half to pull ahead 18-17 on a Parks' jumper.

The Pioneers responded with a 18-5 run of their own, building a 35-23 lead with just over four minute left in the stanza.

The Cavaliers made just nine first half field goals and entered the break trailing 38-27.

William Paterson scored the first two buckets of the second half and never looked back. The Cavaliers pulled within 11 points at the 9:12 mark but could get no closer.

Jadon Capeda scored 17 points to lead five Pioneers in double figures in the victory.

The Cavaliers will face the tournament host WestConn at 1pm on Thursday. The hosts fell to New Paltz 86-79 in Wednesday's event opener.

Senior Matthew Turner led all scorers with 20 points in the loss, while sophomore Ryan Atkins added 13 points and seven boards off the bench.
