RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University women's basketball team opened the Cabrini University Classic with a 99-42 victory over the visiting Rosemont College Ravens.
The Cavaliers offense put up its highest total of the season and most points since a 104-77 drubbing of Gwynedd Mercy University back in January of 2020. The Blue and White also hit a season hit 10 shots from beyond the three point line.
Junior
Miranda Liebtag paced the Cavalier offense with a team high 15 points in just 13 minutes of play. Liebtag added four rebounds and three assists to round out her performance. Sophomore
Abby Paolini finished with a career high 14 points and three rebounds, and went 4-6 from beyond the arc. Junior
Alyssa Gerdes and sophomore
Brielle Fitzpatrick tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Gerdes eclipsed the double digit point plateau for the first time in her career and added a career high five boards. Junior
Kai Williams had a career and game high nine rebounds along with seven points.
After an early Rosemont three pointer the Cavs went on a 12 point run capped by a
Leila Collazo trey to make it 12-3 in favor of the home team. A Makaela Frey jumper ended the run but the Cabrini offense continued to press and closed the first quarter with back to back three pointers from Fitzpatrick and Paolini to take a 25-9 lead into the second frame.
Katie Rodriguez opened the second quarter as she made a layup in the paint off of a fast break followed by a nice jumper in opening minute of the quarter as the Cavaliers outscored the Ravens 18-2 in the first six minutes of the frame to open up a 32 point lead, 43-11. Rosemont tacked on ten points before the end of the first half but the Cavs maintained the 30 point lead and went into the break ahead 51-21. The Blue and White made 10 of their 15 shots from the field in the second frame.
Cabrini opened the third quarter with a 10-1 run to put the game out of reach, 61-22. The Cavs went into the final frame with a 45 point lead, 73-28.
The Ravens added 14 points in the final frame, including a pair a three pointers from Frey who finished the game with a game high 18 points but it was too little too late as the Cavs ran away with 99-42 victory.
The Cabrini defense limited the visitors to just 28.8 percent from the field while forcing 28 turnovers. The Cavs also forced a season best 20 steals, nearly tripling their season average entering the night.
Following tonight's game, the Cavaliers improve to 4-6 overall. They will aim to stay hot and end 2021 on a high note as they host Rowan University tomorrow in the final game of the Cabrini University Classis. Tipoff is slated for 2PM.
