Tough Fourth Quarter Costs Women's Basketball Versus Rowan University

RADNOR, PA - Despite a strong first half, the Cabrini University women's basketball fell to Rowan University in the final game of the Cabrini Classic by a 53-48 final. 

Sophomore Katie Rodriguez led the Blue and White with a team high 10 points, while adding a game high 14 rebounds for her first double-double this season. Junior Miranda Liebtag recorded nine points and nine rebounds in a game high 35 minutes of action. Sophomore Brielle Fitzpatrick also recorded nine points, along with three rebounds.

The Cavs started fast after an early Profs free throw, the Blue and White went on a 6-0 spurt, highlighted by Leila Collazo who pulled up for two. Rowan answered with five of the next seven to make it 8-6 in favor of the Cavs with just under three minutes left in the quarter. Cabrini outscored Rowan 5-2 over the waning moments of the first quarter to take a 13-8 advantage into the second frame.

Cabrini outscored Rowan 7-4 over the first five minutes of the second, freshman Giana Rullo added four points in the run for the Cavs largest lead of the day, 20-12. The Profs answered with an 8-0 spurt kicked off by back to back three pointers to tie the score at 20-20. The Blue and White went on a 5-0 stretch to end the first half, highlighted by a pair of layups from freshman Syd Kesselman, to regain the lead and go into the break ahead 25-20.

The Cavaliers clung to the lead until an 8-0 run midway through the third gave the Profs their first lead since the opening minute of the game, 32-30. Cabrini responded with an 8-3 run to regain the lead, highlighted by a Dani Tyrell shot from beyond the arc as the Cavs went into the final frame ahead 38-35.

Rowan seized momentum in final frame with nine unanswered and 13 of the first 16 points to open up a 48-41 lead with under four minutes to play. Dakota Adams had six points in the run and finished the game with 12 points coming off the bench for the Profs. The Blue and White fought back with a 7-2 stretch to trim the deficit to two points with 48 seconds to play in regulation, 50-48, but it was not enough as Rowan held on down the stretch for the aforementioned 53-48 victory.
 
Following tonight's game, the Cavs move to 4-7 overall. They will look to get back in the win column on as they open the new year and conference play versus the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins on Wednesday. Game time is slated for 6PM at Nerney Field House.
