Cavaliers Open 2021 with Wins over Immaculata

RADNOR, PA –
Marking their first action since winning the 2019 Atlantic East Conference championship, the Cabrini swim teams made a triumphant return, defeating Immaculata tonight at the Dixon Center Pool.

The Blue and White men scored a 117.38.5 victory, while the women won 100-84.

The Cabrini men were in control from tonight's first event, as the Cavaliers won each of the night's 11 events.

Junior Tre Fissella, one of four Cavaliers to score a pair of individual wins, led the Blue and White. In his first meet with the Cavaliers, Fissella broke the program's 100 yard breast stroke mark, as his time of 59.07 sliced 1.5 seconds from the previous record. His victorious time of 1:58.69 missed the program's 200 yard individual medley record by just 0.2 seconds.

Senior Cameron Mousley matched Fissella's win total, as the senior scored victories in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events, reaching the wall in 1:56.80 and, 5:21.00, respectively.

Classmate Mac Granto added two wins, as well, capturing the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events in 22.5 and 29.36, respectively.

Freshman Matt Seifried also made the most of his Cabrini debut, reaching the wall first in both the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:19.21) and 100 yard breaststroke (59.41).

Likewise, the Cabrini women cruised to victory on the strength of four different individual event winners.

Senior Tara McCloskey and junior Sarah Gudas led the team with two wins each. The senior reached the wall first in both the 200 yard individual medley (2:23.99) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.64).

Gudas matched the double with wins in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles, recording times of 26.56 and 58.01.

Junior Tara Frino and freshman Belinda Hedden paired first and second place finishes, as well. The junior claimed victory in the 100 yard butterfly (1:09.87) and finished second in the 100 yard backstroke, while Hedden reached the wall first in the 1,000 yard freestyle (12:51.91) and scored a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle.

The Cavaliers will return to action n Sunday, March 28, when they play host to Marywood. The opening event is slated for 1pm at the Dixon Center Pool.
