Women's Basketball Celebrates 58-50 Victory Over Knights on Senior Day

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini women's basketball team capped their senior day with a 58-50 victory over the visiting Neumann University Knights on Saturday evening.

It had been almost a full calendar year, 363 days to be exact, since the Blue and White last took the hard wood, but their defense showed little rust as they held the Knights to just 32% from the field and forced 20 turnovers. The offense, meanwhile was paced by seniors Lexi Edwards and Ashley Tutzauer who tallied 17 points and 16 points, respectively.

Classmate Caitlin King chipped in six points and a team high seven rebounds, while senior Kate Lannon and sophomore Miranda Liebtag added six rebounds a piece.

Edwards netted the game's first points with a driving layup to the right side, but the Knights quickly responded as they took a 7-4 lead; the three point margin would be their largest lead of the night.

The two teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter as they headed to the second knotted at 16-16.

Following a pair of free throws at the seven minute mark from Neumann's Allyson Wills to move the score to 19 all, the Cavaliers rattled off a 9-0 run that spanned nearly five minutes. The spurt was punctuated by a deep three from Tutzauer to give the hosts a 28-19 advantage. Back-to-back threes from Neumann's Terea Hunt and Kiara Stovall, however trimmed the Cavs lead to 30-25 heading into the intermission.

Cabrini opened the second half with an 11-4 run to push their lead to a game high 12 points, but the Knights answered in a big way thanks to 14-3 run of their own to claw back to within a point at 44-43.

The Cavs would nurse their one point lead into the final stanza until a baseline jumper from King pushed the Cavs' lead to 47-44. Ensuing layups from Lannon, Tutzauer Edwards handed the Blue and White a 53-46 cushion with just over five minutes left in regulation. A key basket from Liebtag down the stretch iced the game in favor of the Cavs as they would go on for the eventual 58-50 final.

As mentioned, the Cavaliers celebrated their six seniors this afternoon in Brianna Blair, Lexi Edwards, Caitlin King, Kate Lannon, Ashley Tutzauer and manager Nadya Gibson. Across their four years, the group accounted for 67 victories, including a sterling 37-3 record in conference play, and an ECAC championship the previous season. Together they accounted for 3,132 points, 1,260 rebounds, and 533 assists.
