RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse locked up the top seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament with a statement victory, as the Cavaliers topped the Marywood Pacers 19-5 tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The Blue and White's sixth consecutive victory improved the club to 6-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play. By virtue of the win, Cabrini has earned a bye into the semifinal round, scheduled for April 28, and home field advantage.
Today also marked the final regular season home appearance for Cabrini's five seniors,
Shannon Agnew,
Lauren Buck,
Taylor Dimmerling,
Kathleen Emche,
Ashley Tutzauer.
These ladies have helped the Cavaliers earn 34 wins over their careers, including a 20-1 mark in conference play, two conference championships and the 2019 ECAC title, the first in program history.
In their 163 appearances in the Blue and White, they have combined for 184 goals, 101 assists, 212 ground balls, 80 draw controls and 113 caused turnovers.
Sophomores
Dana Carlson and
Shea Neary provided the power for the Cavaliers tonight. Carlson led the offensive attack with a season-high seven goals and eight points.
Neary also had a career night, pairing four goals and four dimes for a career high eight points, to go with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Freshman
Olivia Pace chipped in with three goals and a helper, while four other Cavaliers accounted for one marker each.
The Blue and White dominated both sides of the pitch in the victory. Cabrini's 40 shots, 19 goals, 12 assists and eight turnovers marked some of the team's best outputs of the season.
But its effort really showed on the defensive end. The Cavaliers matched a season-high with 17 caused turnovers, while holding the Pacers to just six shots, more than 20 shots below their season average.
The Cavaliers wasted little time in seizing control of the action, as Neary and Carlson combined for three goals in the opening 2:32 of the game. Cabrini's lead swelled to 7-0 before Marywood (3-2, 3-2 Atlantic East) sophomore Brielle Peters scored the first of her three goals on the night.
The Blue and White built a comfortable 13-2 lead at the half after outshooting the visitors 28-2 in the opening 30 minutes.
The Cavaliers must now wait until the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic East Conference Tournament on April 24 to learn their semifinal round opponent. Stay tuned to CabriniAthletics.com for the latest schedule information.
