WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Cabrini baseball team closed out their 2021 campaign this evening following a pair of losses on the day in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament.
Game One: Marymount 6, Cabrini 2
The Cavaliers dropped their opening game of the day by a 6-2 final to the top seeded Marymount University Saints.
Junior
Jonathan Baker tossed a complete game for the Blue and White, surrendering five earned on nine hits, while striking out three, but was saddled with his second loss of the season.
Drew Mead opposed Baker and collected the win after limiting Cabrini to two runs across six frames.
Offensively, the Cavs were led by senior
Justin Henry. The veteran tallied two of the team's seven hits, including a double, while driving in an RBI. Classmate
Steven Priest added his sixth homerun of the season.
Priest's long ball opened up the scoring in the top of the first to hand the Cavs an early advantage. Henry doubled Cabrini's lead in the third with his aforementioned RBI double to right center. The would unfortunately cap the Cavs scoring as Marymount would take a 4-2 lead in the bottom half of the third and add a pair of insurance runs in the eighth for the eventual 6-2 final.
Game Two: Immaculata 13, Cabrini 6
Following the results of game one, the Cavs were forced to play in tonight's elimination game in a rematch from Wednesday against Immaculata University.
The Cavs again started quickly as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. A three RBI triple from sophomore
Christian Strickland served as the inning's big blow, while freshman
Peyton Taylor capped the inning with an RBI single to plate Strickland.
The second seeded Mighty Macs trimmed the Cavs' lead in half in the second inning thanks to a two RBI double from Steven Theisen.
Strickland again came up clutch for the Blue and White, this time in the third, as the backstop served a pitch back up the middle to push the Cavs' lead to 5-2.
Immaculata responded in a big way, however as they plated three runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a commanding 13-5 lead.
An RBI single from freshman
Jon Sepe would cap the Cavs scoring in the top of the seventh.
As mentioned, Strickland led the offense with fourth RBI, while Sepe tallied a team high three hits.
Freshman
Domenic Marotta was saddled with the loss after allowing six earned in four innings. Immaculata's Ryan Crowell allowed six earned across eight innings to earn the win.
