ARLINGTON, VA - The Cabrini baseball team dropped a pair of one run games this afternoon against the hosting Marymount University Saints.
Game One: Marymount 5, Cabrini 4
The Cavs comeback attempt fell just short in game one as the Saints edged the Blue and White by a slim 5-4 final.
Senior
Mack McKisson paced the offense with three of the team's five hits, including an RBI, while junior
Garrett Laraia and freshman Shance Chavez-Zottnick also marked the hit column and added an RBI.
Senior
Nicholas Gares toed the rubber in game one, but was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs on six hits and six walks in five innings of work. He added a season high seven strikeouts.
Opposite of Gares, Marymount's Jake Andrews collected the win, his third of the season, after logging 1.2 innings of relief.
The Saints jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings, highlighted by a pair of home ones, including a two run homer from Bill Wojick.
Cabrini trimmed the Saints' lead to 4-3 in the ensuing frame thanks to an RBI single from Chavez-Zottnick and a sac fly from Laraia. McKisson would force in the game's tying run in the sixth after a bases loaded walk, but a sac fly from Marymount's Alex Lemery in the bottom of the frame proved to be the eventual game winner.
Game Two: Marymount 3, Cabrini 2
Senior
Mike Valerio took the tough luck loss for the Cavs in game two after tossing a complete game. The veteran scattered 10 hits and allowed three runs (two earned), while striking out five.
The Saints Stephen Gerade collected his second win of the year after allowing two runs in six innings. Clint Wheeler collected his third save after facing the minimum across three innings of work.
Senior
Gilbert Peralta led the offense with a pair of hits, including a double, and an RBI, while McKisson, junior
Christian Strickland and senior
Justin Henry rounded out the Cavs to mark the hit column.
Cabrini struck first in the top of the fourth as Peralta took advantage of an error, allowing McKisson to score.
The Saints would quickly get the run back, however after a balk from Valerio forced home a runner on third.
As mentioned, Peralta delivered the highlight for the Blue and White with a double down the left field line to plate senior
Brendan Van Belle, putting the Cavs up 2-1 in the sixth.
Marymount would again answer in their half the frame, this time pushing across two runs for the eventual 3-2 final.
Following today's double dip, the Cavs move to 14-8 overall and 12-4 in AEC play. They will close out their regular season on Thursday, May 13th when they host Immaculata University for a double header beginning at 12pm.
