Cavs Blow Past Centenary University Cyclones for Fifth Consecutive Victory

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - The Cabrini University women's basketball team surrendered less than under 40 points for the second time this season as they blew past the Centenary (NJ) Cyclones for a 64-35 victory. With the victory the Cavs pushed their winning streak to five games, including four Atlantic East Conference victories.

Ten different Cavaliers marked the scoring column, led by graduate student Ashley Tutzauer who tallied 14 points and senior Dani Tyrell who had a career high 10 points and three steals. Junior Miranda Liebtag finished the game with a game high 10 rebounds and nearly recorded a double-double with eight points. The 35 points allowed was the fewest since an 81-35 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University on January 11, 2018.

After five minutes of tightly contested basketball in which the Cyclones opened up a slim 9-8 margin, the Blue and White went on a 12-4 run over the remainder of the first quarter, which began and ended with Tyrell three pointers as the visiting team closed out the quarter ahead 20-13.

Already holding a seven point lead, Cabrini added 13 points in the second quarter, including a 12-0 stretch through the first 4:30, to head into the intermission with a 33-16 lead. The Blue and White held the Gators to just 1-of-11 (9.1%) from the field and forced seven turnovers.

Coming out of the break the Cavaliers went on a 16-2 run, in which Liebtag and Tutzauer had four points apiece, to put the game out of reach, 49-18. The Cyclones outscored the Cavs 8-5 over the next four minutes but 54-26 with 10 minutes to play in regulation.

With the win all but secured the Cavaliers were outscored 10-9 over the final 10 minutes of play but easily held on for their fifth consecutive victory. The five game winning streak is the longest since a 10 game unbeaten streak during the 2018-19 season.

After tonight's victory, the Blue and White improve to 9-9 overall and 4-2 in the AEC. They will next take the court on Saturday, January 29th when they host Neumann University. Tipoff is slated for 2pm.
