MADISON, NJ – The Cabrini University women's soccer team fell to DeSales University 3-2 in a tightly contested match in the first round of the 2022 ECAC championship tournament held at FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon.
The Cavaliers (12-6-1) took an early 1-nil lead as
Ally Wojton found the back of the Bulldogs net in the 7' of action. Just 10 minutes later, in the 17', DeSales' Sam Monteforte put the Bulldogs on the board with an unassisted goal and the two squads headed into the intermission knotted at 1-1.
Things got strange in the second half as a DeSales own goal in the 66' gave the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead. The Cavs lead did not last long as the Bulldogs tied the match for a second time on a goal from DeSales leading scorer Emma Ribeiro. Then with 37 seconds left in regulation, the Bulldogs found the back of the Cabrini net all but sealing the DeSales win.
Cabrini finished the season with a 12-6-1 overall record. The Cavaliers went 5-1 in Atlantic East play during the regular season and boasted six all-conference award winners.
