Women's Basketball Ends Regular Season with Win at Marywood

Cavs will host game one of the Atlantic East tournament on Monday

RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University women's basketball team closed their regular season with a 67-56 victory over the Marywood University Pacers in a key Atlantic East Conference matchup.

The Cavaliers remain the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

The Blue and White were led offensively by graduate student Ashley Tutzauer who posted a team high 15 points including a career best 9-for-10 from the charity line. Tutzauer also narrowly missed the double-double as she matched her career best with nine rebounds.

Junior Miranda Liebtag and sophomore Katie Rodriguez rounded out the Cavs in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Liebtag also matched Tutzauer for the team lead with nine boards. Sophomore Abby Paolini chipped in nine points in 15 minutes of action.

Despite shooting just 25.0 percent from the field in the opening frame and just 1-and-9 in the after the opening minute the Cavaliers managed to keep pace with the Pacers on the scoreboard. Marywood held a narrow 14-12 advantage over the Cavs after one.

The Cavs briefly gained the lead in the opening minute of the second, 16-14 but it was still anyone's game as there were four lead changes before a 7-4 stretch in the final 90 seconds of the half, highlighted by a Tutzauer jumper at the buzzer, gave the Cavs a 33-31 lead headed into the break.

A back and forth first half gave way to a decisive third quarter as the Blue and White went on a 12-2 run over the first six minutes of the second half, including 4-6 shooting from the field and six points from Rodriguez, to go ahead 45-33. Marywood responded with 10 points in the final four minutes of the third but Cabrini maintained its' 12 point advantage, thanks to perfect 10-for-10 shooting from the charity line, to take a 55-43 lead into the final quarter.

In the final quarter, the Cavaliers made 2-of-15 from the field but added another eight points from the line and held the Pacers to 3-for-15 shooting from the field to walk away with 67-56 victory.

Cabrini made a season high 26-of-31 free throw attempts. Marywood knocked down 5-of-16 from long range, but hit only 33.3% (21 of 63) from the field for the game. The Cavaliers also outrebounded the home team by a 39-33 margin.
