Women's Lacrosse Falls at Scranton in Regular Season Finale

SCRANTON, PA – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team saw its five games in streak come to an end today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 12-7 loss at Scranton in their regular season finale.

The loss closes the Blue and White's regular season with a record of 9-7.

Seniors Olivia Little and Dana Carlson recorded three goals each, while classmate Shea Neary added the club's other marker.

Little added four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers, while Neary secured three ground balls, and two draw controls.

Freshman Neve Murphy chipped in with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Senior goaltender Sam Hamalak suffered the loss despite recording nine saves.

The Cavaliers grabbed an early lead, as Carlson opened the scoring just 76 seconds into the game. The Royals evened the score with just under seven minutes left in the opening stanza, but Little's unassisted goal gave the Blue and White a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes.

The Royals seized control of the game in the second quarter. The home side outshot the Cavaliers 8-3 and secured six of the period's seven draws en route to outscoring Cabrini 5-1 in the frame. After 30 minutes, the Blue and White found itself looking up at a 6-3 deficit.

Both clubs exchanged goals early in the third, but a pair of Scranton markers extended the Royals' lead to 9-4 with just 15 minutes to play.

Cabrini's thoughts of a fourth comeback were thwarted early in the fourth quarter, as Scranton extended its lead to 11-4 just over two minutes into the final period.

The Cavaliers struggled to find their offensive rhythm today, as the club recorded season lows with seven goals and 17 shots, while its nine draw controls ranked among the team's fewest.

The Blue and White will now turn its attention to the upcoming Atlantic East Conference Tournament. As the tournament's top seed, the Cavaliers will host a semifinal round match-up next Wednesday. Game time and opponent have not yet been determined.
