ARLINGTON, VA – The Cabrini University baseball team got back in win column this afternoon, as the Cavaliers came away with a narrow Atlantic East Conference victory over the Marymount University Saints.
The Blue and White grabbed an early lead as senior
Gil Peralta's opened up the score with his team leading sixth homerun of the season for two-RBI. The Saints', Ryan Lee, responded with an RBI-single in the bottom of the inning to slim the Cavs lead to just one headed into the top of the second.
Marymount added a pair of of solo homeruns in the second and third inning to grab their first lead of the game, 3-2.
Freshman
Billy D'Ambrosia tied the game at threes in the top of the fourth with his first career homer.
Cabrini regained the lead on a Peralta single to left field and three walks in the top of the fifth.
With two outs on the board in the bottom of the fifth the home team loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hit by pitch but sophomore
Dom Marotta came on in relief grounded a ball to end the inning.
Senior
Mack McKisson scored what turned out to be the decisive run in the top of the sixth as he reached on a walk and used three wild pitches to increase the lead to 5-3.
The Saint's added one additional run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a pair of hits and an error but that would be as close as it would get. A 6-4-3 double play in the bottom of the ninth ended the game as the Cavaliers escaped with the aforementioned 5-4, AEC victory.
Senior pitcher
Jonathan Baker improved to to 5-2 on the year after surrendering three earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Marotta pitched 4.1 innings allowing one run on five hits.
The Cavaliers will have a quick turnaround as the complete the three-game series, when they host a doubleheader versus the Saints tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
