MEDFORD, MA – For the second consecutive day, the Cabrini softball team could not find its offense. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, today's 6-0 loss to Muhlenberg put an end to their 2022 season.
The Cavaliers fell behind early as the first two Mules reached base before a three run homer provided all the offense Muhlenberg needed.
Cabrini's deficit grew to 4-0 before the Blue and White threatened to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Senior
Emily Wargo singled before classmate
Allison Martin reached on an error. Both advanced one bag on sophomore
Emma Barbera's sacrifice bunt, the first out of the inning. Neither could advance further, as the next two batters failed to reach base.
The Blue and White managed just two base hits on the day, as sophomore
Madison Gugel notched a sixth inning double.
Junior pitcher
Avery Byrnes suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.
The Blue and White closes its season with a 23-12 overall record, including 8-4 in the Atlantic East Conference. Cabrini also captured its sixth conference title, the program's first since 2004, and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
