RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals then held on for a 2-1 win over Bryn Mawr in its 2022 debut today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The Cavaliers opened the scoring in the 31
st minute, as senior
Rebekah Cunningham converted a penalty kick. The home side doubled its lead in the 38
th minute, when sophomore
Maggie McCay found freshman
Gabby Palladino for the rookie's first collegiate goal.
Despite outshooting the Owls 14-5 in the opening 45 minutes, the Blue and White carried a slim 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Cabrini notched just three second half shots, turning to its defense to seal the win.
The visitors notched nine shots in the second 45 minute frame, but freshman goaltender
Caroline Hassall was up to the task, recording four of her six saves in the second period.
Bryn Mawr finally solved the Cabrini defense in the 82
nd minute, as Amanda Cruz put the Owls on the board. The visitors looked to even the score in the 88
th minute, but Hassall's final save before the full time whistle secured the win.
Cunningham accounted for seven of the Blue and White's 17 total shots on the day, while sophomore
Ella Marrollo added four.
Bryn Mawr goaltender Natalia Chorzepa suffered the loss despite recording 11 saves.
The Cavaliers have a few days to enjoy today's win before returning to action on Sept. 7 for the annual Battle for Eagle Road. Game time is set for 7pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
