Hackettstown, NJ - On Wednesday evening, Cabrini Women's Soccer squared off against the Cyclones of Centenary University. Centenary got the better of the Cabrini, as the Cavaliers fell 3-0.
First Half Action
Twenty minutes in,
Rylie Butler created a window for an early shot. She used a touch to settle the ball in front of her, striking it as she stepped into it. Her shot met the hands of Centenary's goalkeeper.
Cabrini generated more chances shortly thereafter.
In one sequence,
Rebekah Cunningham intercepted a Centenary clear attempt to gain possession. She led
Maggie McCay with a pass to the left side of the box, but the eventual shot was a bit too strong.
On another play,
Amanda Elwell made a great cross into the box from the right sideline. Elwell's pass found
Maggie McCay, but a Cyclone defender was able to get a piece of the ball to slow the shot attempt before being cleared away.
Cabrini conceded the game's first goal a half hour in. As Centenary played a cross into the box, a Cyclone forward surprised the Cavaliers with a soft left footed touch. Her one timer found its way into Cabrini's goal, rolling in near post.
Second Half Action
Cabrini nearly evened the score in the 59th minute. As
Amanda Elwell sent a free kick toward the Cyclones' goal,
Rylie Butler made the inside run. Butler connected on a header, which struck the face of the crossbar.
Five minutes later, Centenary scored their second goal off a left side corner. The Cyclones were able to get an in-air touch just before the ball could be secured by the hands of
Caroline Hassall.
With two minutes remaining, Centenary capped off their victory with a set piece score. As a free kick was sent to the corner of the goal box, a Cyclone forward headed the cross into the far post webbing.

The Cavaliers host Immaculata University on Saturday, October 21st. Cabrini will recognize the six members of their senior class prior to kickoff at 3pm.
