Malvern, PA - On Saturday afternoon, Cabrini Men's Soccer faced the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University.
First Half Action
Cabrini netted the game's opening goal in the 21st minute.
Matt Duddy first swiped the ball at midfield, then carried down inside the penalty box. After a brief stutter and spin, Duddy worked a left footed strike that beat the goalkeeper far post.
The Cavaliers looked to add to their advantage a half hour in. On one sequence,
Nolan Holloway settled the ball at midfield, found
Matt Duddy ahead, who then led
Nick LoBiondo toward goal. At the penalty arc, LoBiondo used a touch to get around the oncoming Macs' goalkeeper, but an Immaculata defenseman made a sliding save to deter LoBiondo's shot.
Similar defensive heroics were seen on the other end, as Cabrini halted an Immaculata break three minutes shy of halftime. On the play, chaos in front of the Cavaliers' goal led to a shot for an opposing forward inside the goal box, but
Jake Scully went to the ground to seal the near post and knock the shot away.
Second Half Action
Cabrini held their 1-0 lead until the 68th minute, when Immaculata evened the score behind good ball movement. Following a cross from the right corner,
MJ Graham lunged forward to bat the pass away before the stray deflection was poked into the center of Cabrini's goal.
The Cavaliers worked to reclaim the lead with some late chances.
With 15 minutes on the clock,
Jalen Hammond and
Nolan Holloway exchanged passes through their attacking zone. Hammond ultimately found
Hunter Rolles on the right corner of the penalty box, whose one-timer lifted just over the goal frame.
In the game's closing minutes,
Jalen Hammond played a through ball to
Matt Duddy. Inside the box, Duddy placed a shot on frame that met the forearm of Immaculata's goalkeeper.
With under a minute,
Nick LoBiondo beat his defender down the left sideline before entering a cross into the box.
Matt Duddy played the pass with a quick one-timer that struck the inside of the left post and fell into the arms of the Macs' goalkeeper.
Duddy finished with 5 shots on goal, and goalkeeper
MJ Graham tallied 6 saves in the contest.
