Aston, PA - On Saturday afternoon, Cabrini Men's Soccer squared off against the top-seeded Knights of Neumann University in the Atlantic East
Conference Championship match.
First Half Action
After a Cabrini foul just inside the penalty box, Neumann took the early lead by converting their penalty kick try.
The Cavaliers looked to score immediately after the Knights' goal. As
Jake Scully played a pass from the left corner to
Matt Duddy, Duddy stepped into a left footed shot that was hit well and headed away. Cabrini then played consecutive corners, but each was deterred.
Second Half Action
Ten minutes after the halftime break, Cabrini nearly evened the score. As a Cabrini throw-in made its way into the box,
Nolan Holloway struck a volley that caught the knee of a Neumann defender. The shot's rebound narrowly missed wide left, setting up a Cabrini corner.
Holloway set up to take the corner, and played to
Matt Duddy in front. Duddy met the cross with a strong header, but a Neumann defender, holding the near-post mark, jumped to send Duddy's shot away.
Matt Duddy placed two more shots on goal in the second half, both halted by the Knight's goalkeeper.
The Cavaliers' second half effort led to three Cabrini corners and eight shots in the frame, but Neumann escaped with the 1-0 victory.
