Radnor, PA - On Wednesday evening, Cabrini Men's Basketball began their eventual season at home against the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College. The Cavaliers gained momentum early, but Elizabethtown's efficiency and rebounding were two factors that swung the game in the Blue Jays' favor.
First Half Action
As consecutive threes from
Eric Neal and
Donoven Mack capped off an 8-point run, Cabrini forced Elizabethtown to call time with the Cavs up 10-4.
Six minutes in, the Cavaliers pushed their lead to 7 after an off-balance baseline jump shot from
George Marion.
While the Blue Jays chipped into the lead at various points, Cabrini regained control midway through the first half.
Bryan Warren's layup and a pair of
Jayden Blakey free throws off his own steal allowed the Cavs to take the 20-14 advantage.
Fueled by some Cabrini miscues, Elizabethtown scored in transition and at the rim to create the 37-30 lead they carried into the break.
Second Half Action
Elizabethtown's Rance Russo caught fire, notching 23 points (8-12 FG, 6-6 FT) and 5 rebounds in the period. Etown's guard tandem of Russo and Austin Finarelli were each a +18 in their second half minutes.
While the Cavaliers willed their way to the line in the second (13-21 FTs), they were unable to match the Blue Jays efficiency, as Etown shot 18-32 (56%) from the field and 5-10 from beyond the arc in the final frame.
Elizabethtown distanced themselves down the stretch, ultimately taking the game by a score of 87-66.
Bryan Warren (11 points, 2 assists, 4 steals) and
Jaden Dickerson (10 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds) both reached double figures in the loss.
