Game Recap: Basketball (Men) |

Offensive Outburst Lifts Cavs over Lions

Cabrini used a 51 point second half to earn their second win of their season.

Reading, PA - On Monday night, Cabrini Men's Basketball traveled to face the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks.

Beyond the Box Score

The Cavaliers opened with the first four points before playing a very even game early. The score was knotted 10-10 after five minutes of play and the scoreboard read 22-21 midway through the opening period.

The Lions created a slight edge later in the first half, leading by as much as 8. Cabrini wiped that advantage, as Keenan Reiss converted a three, Isaac Brady made a layup, and Eric Neal went to the line to give the Cavaliers points on three consecutive possessions.

Penn State picked up steam again before halftime, as they'd score on each of their last 5 trips down the court. This led to the 6 point lead the Lions carried into the break.

After the Lions scored the first bucket of the second half, the Cavaliers' defensive activity fueled a 18-0 run that turned the game in their favor. A Jayden Blakey three following an Isaac Brady steal evened the score with 17:16 on the clock, while an Eric Neal transition layup off a Donoven Mack steal gave Cabrini a 2 point lead.

The Cavaliers capped off their impressive 18 point swing with a George Marion layup that put the Cavs ahead 60-50. Cabrini reclaimed a double digit advantage with 8 minutes remaining before pulling away down the stretch.

Penn State struggled to stay in rhythm late, as they'd shoot 2-16 from deep and 12-37 overall in the second half.

On the night, Cabrini finished 34-60 from the floor, shot 7-20 from 3 point range, and converted 18 free throws. The Cavaliers went to the line 23 times compared to the Lions' 7 free throw attempts.
