Cavaliers extend win streak to four in a row with drubbing of Eastern

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team extended its winning streak to four straight Wednesday afternoon as the Cavaliers topped Eastern 17-4 in seven innings.

In the top of the first, Cavaliers starter Blake Weinstein wiggled out of a bases loaded jam as the freshman ended up with three punchouts in the inning to begin the game. In the second, Christian Strickland drove in Ben Houghton and three batters later, Garrett Laraia singled home two more to put Cabrini up 3-0. Weinstein worked out of bases loaded jams in both the first and second, but in the third, the Eagles cut into the Cabrini lead with a sacrifice fly and a solo homer and Cabrini led 3-2 after three innings.

In the fourth, the Cavaliers (8-4) added two runs to go ahead 4-2, but in the fifth, Cabrini tacked on seven runs on four hits to take an 11-3 lead as three Eastern miscues led to three runs for the Cavs. Zack Brook, Jake Eagle, and Ben Houghton each drove in a run in three consecutive plate appearances as the fourth RBI came on an infield single from Sean Glatts

In the sixth, after Dom Marotta got out of a bases loaded jam, the Cavaliers bats were not done come the bottom half as Jaden Dickerson slapped a two-run double down the left field line to give the Cavs a 12-3 lead. Two batters later, after a Houghton RBI-single, Glatts stepped to the plate with runners on first and third and put an exclamation point on the game as he parked a fastball over the left-center field fence for his first career home run to give the Cavs a 17-3 lead and the eventual 17-4 win.

Glatts finished the day 2-for-3 with four RBIs and his sixth multi-hit game of the season and second time against Eastern. Four Cavs finished the day with multiple RBIs as Larraia, Eagle, Dickerson, and Houghton each drove in two runs on the day.

Weinstein went three innings and allowed just two runs on three hits and punched our five in his second career start. Brandon Harris came on in relief of Weinstein and went 2 and 2/3 innings as he allowed one run on two hits and struck out four.

The Cavaliers are back in action on Sunday, March 12 as Cabrini hosts Delaware Valley in a non-conference match up. First pitch is set for noon est.
