Cavaliers top Wilkes in non-conference bout

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team topped Wilkes University 15-6 in a non-conference contest Friday afternoon at Cabrini Carroll Field.

The Cavaliers fell behind 1-0 after the top of the first, as back-to-back doubles from the Colonels led to a Wilkes run. Cabrini starter Jordan Silvestri settled in after he allowed the lone run as the sophomore went six innings and scattered five hits with no walks and three punch outs.

Cabrini's offense picked up its starter as the Cavs scored four runs in the home half of the first highlighted by a three-run, bases clearing triple from Zack Brook to take a 4-1 lead. The Cavs tacked on two more in the second as Jaden Dickerson plated Dustin Sutton with an RBI-groundout followed by an RBI-single from Ben Houghton two batters later to give Cabrini a 6-1 edge. The bats stayed hot in the third as Dickerson roped a two-run double and both Houghton and Brook plated runs to extend the Cavaliers lead to 10-1 through four innings.

In the sixth, the Cavs tacked on four more as Brook scored on a sacrifice fly from Brady Campbell, followed by an RBI-single from Sutton and another two-run double from Dickerson to put the Cavs ahead 14-1. The Wilkes bats came to life in the eighth as the Colonels scored five runs on four hits to cut the Cabrini lead to 14-6 but that was all the Cavs bullpen allowed as Cabrini tacked on one more in the home half and went onto win 15-6.

Dickerson finished the day 5-for-6 with four doubles with five RBIs and two runs scored. Colton Narciso had four hits and four runs scored on the day while Brook went 2-for-5 with four RBIs.

In the bottom of the sixth, senior Christian Strickland singled through the left side for his 100th-career hit in a Cabrini uniform.

Cabrini enjoys a weekend off from Atlantic East Conference action and returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 25 as the Cavaliers head to Allentown for a bout with the Moravian University Greyhounds. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
