IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team fell to Immaculata University 6-0 Saturday afternoon in the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Championship at the Immaculata Baseball Stadium.
The Cavaliers fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the third as the Mighty Macs turned a one-out double into the first run of the game on an RBI-single from Joey Sacco to plate Josh Crowding. In the fifth another one-out double from the Macs led to Immaculata's second run of the day to go up 2-0 after three innings.
For the next two innings, Cabrini starter
Dom Marotta shoved for the Cavs, but ran into trouble in the seventh and gave way to both
Blake Weinstein and then
Zack Brook. Immaculata then plated four runs on four hits.
At the plate,
Ben Houghton finished the day 2-for-4 while
Zack Brook went 3-for-4 including a double.
The 2023 Elite 20 Award was awarded postgame during the trophy presentation and senior Shane Chaves-Zottnick was named this year's recipient. The Elite 20 Award is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing in the finals of the conference's 20-team championships.
The Cavaliers finished 26-16 for their third-straight winning season and the program's fourth in its seventh year of existence.
