MEDFORD, Mass. – The 2023 season for the Cabrini University softball team came to an end Friday afternoon as the Cavaliers fell 9-0 to Tufts University in the Medford Regional semifinal game at Spicer Field.
The Cavaliers defeated Husson University earlier in the day to advance to the semifinal contest but could not find more NCAA tournament magic as the Jumbos no-hit the Cavaliers to end the 2023 season.
Holly Smith drew a base on balls in the third inning as she was Cabrini's lone baserunner in the game.
The Cavaliers finished the season with a 30-14 record as Cabrini won their second consecutive Atlantic East Conference title to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Avery Byrnes was named the AEC Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Conference.
Madison Gugel and
Ariana Mirenda joined Byrnes with first team selections for shortstop and outfield, respectively while
Kaitlyn Delaney and
Emma Barbera were at-large honorees. Sophomore
Shauna Stotler rounded out Cabrini's postseason awards as she was named to Second Team All-Conference.
