RADNOR, Pa. – Not five in a row. Not seven in a row. But 13 conference championships in a row for the Cabrini University women's lacrosse team as the Cavaliers topped Marywood University 15-9 Saturday afternoon on Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Shea Neary got the scoring started for the Cavs as the senior found the back of the Pacers net just 13 seconds into the contest. The Pacers responded with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead by the 3:49 mark and despite goals from Neary and
Olivia Little to end the quarter, the Cavs trailed 4-3 after the first period. But in the second, Neary knotted the game at four apiece and sparked a four-goal run to give Cabrini an 8-4 lead before intermission.
The Cavs continued their scoring run into the third as
Olivia Pace and Little netted goals nine and 10 for the Cavs. The Pacers cut the lead in half with their fifth goal at the 7:41 mark, but Pace put the Cavs back up by six with their 11th goal of the day to give Cabrini an 11-5 lead after three periods. The fourth was a back-and-forth battle as the two squads each netted four goals in the final quarter, but the Cavs held strong to seal the 2023 AEC title.
Neary led the way for the Cavs as she collected five draw controls and tallied seven points with four goals and six assists on the day on her way to tournament MVP honors. Little led all scorers with five goals and seven points while Pace finished with three goals of her own.
With the win, the Cavaliers advance to their 19th NCAA tournament and will find out their opponent on Monday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m.
