Radnor, PA - In Men's Soccer's last Eagle Road standoff, Cabrini hosted Eastern University at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The game was well attended by both the home and visitor crowds.
Eastern came out on the attack, taking seven shots in the first half and netting the game's first in the 34th minute. As the Eagles connected passes forward up the right side of the field, an Eagle forward placed a shot on goal that Cabrini keeper
MJ Graham stopped with a foot save. However, the shottaker used his left foot to punch in the rebound to put Eastern up 1-0.
After halftime, Cabrini was much stronger. They created many scoring opportunities, outshooting the Eagles eleven to five in the second period. Ten minutes into the second half,
Matt Duddy drew a foul in the box, awarding the Cavs a penalty kick.
Dominic Petruzzelli attempted the kick and struck it low and left, but Eastern's goalkeeper dove to make the impressive save, with the ball spinning back into his hands before the Cavaliers could play the rebound.
With thirty minutes remaining in the game, Eastern made a push to extend their lead. As the Eagles looked for a shot inside Cabrini's box,
MJ Graham made a sliding clear near the penalty marker. An Eagle midfielder played the ball next, but a lunging
Jake Scully prevented the shot from entering the face of the goal.
Inside the last half hour of play, Cabrini maintained possession and put together a number of chances. Their eventual break came in the 75th minute. As
Jalen Hammond carried the ball from midfield into the Cavaliers' attacking zone, he split two Eastern defenders on a pass to
Nick LoBiondo on the right side. LoBiondo made a window for a right footed shot, which was saved by the Eagles' keeper.
Matt Duddy met the rebound off the bounce and used his left to center the ball into the net.
With the game tied 1-1 late, the Cavaliers kept their foot on the gas. Their best chance at breaking the draw came with eleven minutes remaining.
Riley Senisi won possession near the endline on the right side and played a cross through the box.
Nolan Holloway faked a shot attempt, stepping past the ball and allowing it through to Nick Lobiondo just inside the 18 yard line. LoBiondo's one-timer was a hair too high, hitting the right side of the crossbar and out.
Reflecting on the match,
Nolan Holloway shares "We were sloppy in the first half, we let one get away. In the second half, we came out with a bit of fire, started putting things together, getting our wingers involved, getting crosses in. Coming out with a 1-1 draw is tough, but it's the result we earned."
Asked about the crowd,
Nolan Holloway tells "Both schools definitely brought it. Tonight was probably the most filled I've ever seen the bleachers. The atmosphere was electric." On the Cabrini-Eastern rivalry, Holloway adds "I'm excited I got to be a part of it, it means a lot to alumni, it means a lot to us, but at the end of the day it's a 1-1 draw." The draw would mark the first and only tie between the two programs.
Men's Soccer's will return to action on Wednesday, 9/20, as they are set to host Cairn University.
