Cavaliers Put Away Rosemont Early, Win 14-2

RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini University Baseball team defeated the Ravens of Rosemont College on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers lineup got to work early, putting up 8 runs in the first two innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Cabrini created the double-digit run lead they'd carry for the remainder of the afternoon.

How It Happened
Andrew Smith started the day on the bump. In the top of the 1st, Smith hit the leadoff hitter and walked the second, but came out of the inning unscathed by forcing the heart of the order to hit into an infield fly, pop out to the catcher, and strike out swinging.

Cabrini took advantage of Rosemont's defensive misplays early. The Cavs brought three runs across the plate in the bottom of the first as two infield errors allowed Ryan Dipper's single and Christian Strickland's double to generate RBI's.

The Cavaliers hoisted a 5-run 2nd inning, led off by walks from Dustin Sutton and Garrett Laraia. Ryan Dipper then singled to load the bases but an erroneous throw to try and retire him sent Sutton home and Laraia to third. Christian Strickland's sac fly scored Laraia. Next, Zack Brook's single allowed Dipper to touch home. Jacob Roberts and Colton Narciso then hit back to back doubles to bring two more across before the inning's end.

Josh Colon took over on the mound in the 2nd inning, as he'd command two strikeouts and a groundout in the frame. Colon struck out two more in the 3rd, retired the Ravens in order in the 4th, and made it through the second out of the 5th inning. He'd log 5 K's, 2 H, 1 ER, and 1 BB across his 3 2/3 innings of work.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Cabrini tacked on their ninth run. Sutton and Laraia singled to open the inning before consecutive fielder's choice putouts allowed Sutton to cross the plate.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Cavaliers added three more runs. Jacob Roberts led off with a walk before Colton Narciso doubled him to third. Brady Campbell singled up the middle to score Roberts and put runners on the corners. Garrett Laraia's ground ball  came off the shortstop's glove, allowing Narciso to score and Campbell to reach third. Campbell tagged up from third and scored on Jaden Dickerson's lineout sacrifice fly to center field.

Blake Weinstein replaced Josh Colon with 2 outs in the 5th inning. He walked a batter before striking out the next man swinging to close the frame. Weinstein had a 1-2-3 top of the 6th inning, as he forced three groundouts to the left side of the infield.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Cabrini added 2 insurance runs. Brady Campbell doubled to lead off the inning, and Dustin Sutton walked to put two men on for Jaden Dickerson. Dickerson doubled to left to score Campbell while Sutton held up at third. Ryan Dipper drew a throw to first on a dropped third strike to score Dickerson and arrive at a 14 run total.

Ricky Dombrowski pitched a scoreless 7th inning, forcing two lineouts and a flyout. Kai Cummings took the ball in the 8th, pitching to two groundnuts and a fly out in the frame. Cummings allowed an unearned run in the ninth after a throw from the outfield rolled all the way to the backstop allowing the Ravens their second run.

Due Up
The Cavaliers will head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for their spring break trip. There, they'll match up with Eastern University on Feb. 26, Bridgewater College twice on Feb. 28, and John Jay College on Mar. 1.
