Softball Set Back by Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - On Tuesday afternoon, the Cabrini University softball team fell to Eastern University. The Eagle Road rivals end their lifetime series 7-7 against one another, with Eastern claiming the last by a 7-1 score. The Cavaliers return to the diamond next Thursday to face Franklin and Marshall College.

How it Happened
Avery Byrnes took the circle for Cabrini. After the Eagles' first two hitters reached base, the Cavaliers collected a fly out, a ground out, and a pop out to clear the inning. Byrnes ended the second inning with an impressive 1-3 double play, as she'd reach the ball just before it hit the infield dirt. Eastern ultimately manufactured runs in the third and fourth inning, as the Eagles gained a 7-run advantage after four.

Cabrini would get one back in the top of the fifth. Katelyn Delaney led off the inning, reaching base on a hit by pitch. Emma Barbera followed with a single, putting runners on the corners for Dorian Ilyes. Ilyes put a grounder to second base that scored Delaney to put the Cavaliers on the board.

Avery Byrnes escaped the fifth inning and retired the Eagles in order in the sixth, but Eastern would use their second and third pitcher to keep Cabrini from putting up any more runs. Eastern won the seven-inning final as Gugel, Byrnes, and Barbera picked up hits on the afternoon.
