Cabrini Comeback Falls Short to Moravian

RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini University baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Moravian University on Saturday. The Greyhounds took a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth before the Cavaliers answered with a 3-run seventh inning. Cabrini would have opportunities to tie or go ahead, but the Cavaliers would strand the bases loaded in the eighth and leave two men on in the ninth, as the Greyhounds escaped with the 4-3 victory.

How it Happened
Dustin Sutton delivered the first pitch for the Cavaliers, striking out two in the first inning. Jaden Dickerson would make an impressive grab for the third out, a foul fly past third base. Sutton continued into the second inning, surrendering a run on a sac fly to center. After 2.0 IP, 1 R, 4 BB, and 3 Ks, Sutton swapped spots with Kai Cummings who took over on the mound.

Kai Cummings pitched a 1-2-3 third inning with the help of his defense. He'd fan the first batter faced before first baseman Ryan Dipper dove to prevent a line drive single through the right side. Cummings also dealt a strong fourth, and fifth inning, punching out 2 more batters over that span. He'd only run into trouble in the top of the sixth, as the Greyhounds put bat to ball for three hits to open the frame.

In the sixth inning, Dom Marotta entered for Cabrini. Marotta forced a groundout, got a swinging strikeout, and successfully picked off a runner to end the sixth with no runs charged to his name. Three runs would come to pass, however, as Moravian nabbed a 4-0 advantage. Marotta pitched to four batters for a light seventh inning and a three-up, three down eighth inning, catching two batters looking on strikes.

Cabrini got back into the game in the seventh inning, led off by an Alan Bautista single. Marotta reached base on a mishandled chopper to short, putting two men on. Jon Sepe followed with a pinch hit single, loading the bases for the top of the order. Dustin Sutton walked in the Cavaliers first run, as Colton Narciso knocked another in on a fielder's choice. Jaden Dickerson picked up the final RBI of the inning, as his single to center field brought the scoreboard to 4-3.

The Cavaliers presented real pressure in the eighth inning, loading the bases behind a one out double from Bautista and walks from Marotta and Strickland. The Greyhounds, however, escaped the inning with a full count strikeout and a flyout to center.

Josh Colon surrendered one hit and left one man on in as he pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.

Cabrini went down to their final out but threatened to score, as Dipper and Brook singled. Moravian rung up the final out on strikes, as the Greyhounds took the game by a run.
