Strong first half pushes Women's Lacrosse past Widener

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University women's lacrosse team defeated Widener University on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers held a comfortable 9-2 halftime advantage, as they outshot the Pride 24-8 across the first two quarters. Despite a strong fourth quarter push from Widener, Cabrini walked away with the win, pushing their early season record to 2-1. The Cavaliers will hit the road to face Moravian on Wednesday.

Scoring Summary
  • Cabrini got on the board in the third minute, using a player-up opportunity for the game's opening goal. Neve Murphy scored the game's first goal as Olivia Little recorded the helper. 
  • Morgan McClintock followed with an unassisted goal four minutes in.
  • Widener would net their first with 3 minutes left in the opening quarter, but Marissa Mullan would beat the clock with an unassisted score to give Cabrini a 3-1 lead after one.
  • The Cavaliers capitalized on another Pride penalty, as Olivia Little started the second quarter scoring. Marissa Mullan assisted Neve Murphy to put the Cavs ahead by four.
  • With 10:43 on the clock, Widener netted their second to arrive at a 5-2 score.
  • Three minutes shy of halftime, an Olivia Pace goal allowed Cabrini to reclaim a four score lead. 
  • The Cavaliers punched in 3 more in the final minute of the half, as Shea Neary, Morgan McClintock, and Olivia Pace delivered goals. Cabrini entered the break ahead 9-2.
  • To open the second half, Olivia Pace registered her third goal to give the Cavaliers an 8 goal advantage.
  • With 5 minutes left in the third, Widener tallied another. In the opening minutes of the fourth, the Pride scored twice, now feeding a 10-5 game.
  • Caroline Gallagher earned a short-handed goal with nine minutes remaining.
  • Widener made a strong push late, scoring the last four goals of the afternoon. Despite the Pride's two even strength and two player-up goals, they'd fall two scores short of the Cavaliers, who claimed the 11-9 victory.
