Hornets’ Bookend Quarters Sting Cavaliers in Regular-season Finale

WINCHESTER, Va. – On Tuesday evening, the Cabrini University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest on the road to Shenandoah University. The Cavaliers fell behind early and were unable to overcome the Hornets' lead. Following a first round bye in the Atlantic East Conference tournament, Cabrini will play the lowest seeded team remaining at Edith Robb Dixon Field next Wednesday.

Scoring
-Olivia Little led all goalscorers with 6, while Caroline Gallagher had a pair. Neve Murphy, Alena Catka, and Whitney Hershey each found the back of the net once.
-Olivia Little added 2 helpers as Cassidy Starner had 1.

Defensive
-Little and Gallagher led the caused turnover column, recording 4 and 3 respectively. Lauren Young, Krista Geibler, Morgan McClintock, Amelia D'Urso, and Cassidy Starner each forced a single caused turnover. 
-Goalkeeper Abbey Fenton recorded a game-high 8 ground balls, followed by Olivia Little's 3 and Amelia D'Urso and Cassidy Starner with 2.
-Alena Catka collected 5 draw controls, as Olivia Little grabbed 3, Caroline Gallagher had 2, and Sammie Voelkerr came away with 1.

How it Happened

The bookend quarters hurt Cabrini, as Shenandoah jumped in front 7-2 in the first period and outscored the Cavs 3-1 in the fourth. 
  • Shenandoah created an early 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter. 
  • Cabrini answered with a player-up goal ten minutes into the game.
  • Following another Shenandoah goal that gave the Hornets a 7-1 advantage, the Cavaliers netted 3 consecutive scores, tightening the score to 7-4.
  • Shenandoah and Cabrini proceeded to trade two more 3-goal runs, as the scoreboard read 7-10 in favor of the Hornets. The Cavaliers entered halftime trailing 8-12.
  • The Cavs and Hornets had a quieter 2nd half, as the teams would combine for 7 goals.
  • Cabrini scored twice in the third as they'd trail 10-13 entering the final quarter.
  • Shenandoah netted 3 of the 4 scores in the final frame, giving the Hornets the contest by a five goal margin.
