Women's Lacrosse Drops Neumann, Advances to AEC Championship

RADNOR, Pa. - On Wednesday afternoon, the Cabrini University women's lacrosse team met five-seeded Neumann University in the Atlantic East Conference Semifinals. The Knights entered the evening after defeating Immaculata University 21-16 in the first round of the conference tournament, while Cabrini held a bye during conference quarterfinals. To open the game, the Cavaliers darted to an eleven goal first quarter lead before taking the contest 18-4. With the comfortable semifinal victory, Cabrini moves on to the Atlantic East Conference Championship to be played at home on Saturday afternoon.

Scoring Summary
  • Cabrini found the back of the net thrice in the opening minute. Alena Catka took the opening draw downfield before Morgan McClintock found Neve Murphy for the opening score. Olivia Little found a cutting Alena Catka for the second goal before Shea Neary went left to right for the Cavs' third. 
  • Through four minutes of play, the Cavaliers extended their lead to 5-0 behind goals from Neve Murphy and Caroline Gallagher. Murphy's goal was assisted by McClintock after a Little completed a clear up the right sideline. Gallagher's tally came after picking off a pass at midfield and carrying straight in for the goal. 
  • Neumann got on the board with a wrap-around score at the 9:45 mark.
  • Olivia Little delivered a free position goal in to give the Cavaliers a 6-1 lead.
  • Cassidy Starner found the upper left corner after a feed from Shea Neary.
  • Midway through the first quarter, Little found a crossing Neve Murphy for Murphy's third goal of the contest.
  • Whitney Hershey scored from her left shoulder after tucking a pass from Marissa Mullan away from the defense.
  • Krista Geibler bounced a shot past the keeper after Olivia Little raced downfield for the Cavs.
  • Olivia Little drew two Knights on a free position attempt, dishing to Morgan McClintock for the finish.
  • The Cavaliers capped off the first quarter with a score from Olivia Little, who sliced through a pair of defenders for her second goal.
  • Olivia Pace opened the second quarter scoring after collecting a ground ball from midfield and taking it the distance. 
  • With a player advantage, Alena Catka cut up the middle for a goal assisted by Neve Murphy.
  • Cassidy Starner and Morgan McClintock connected for a score midway thorugh the second, as McClintock drove around the defense to her left for a high release shot.
  • Neumann's leading goal-scorer registered the next, an unassisted tally four and a half minutes shy of halftime.
  • Tessa Vannello scored a player-up goal a minute later, helped by a pass from Marissa Mullan moving behind the net.
  • Alena Catka scored the first goal after the halftime break, netting a backhanded shot after a pass inside from Morgan McClintock.
  • After a pair of shot fakes, Olivia Little sent a pass to Marissa Mullan approaching side right, as Mullan netted the Cavaliers' eighteenth goal of the day.
  • Neumann collected the only two scores of the final frame, a shorthanded goal with eleven minutes remaining and a tip in goal as time expired on the conference semifinal match.
