Dr. Tony Verde will begin his 13th season as head coach in 2016-17 after four seasons as an assistant coach with the Cabrini golf team. Verde previously served 11 seasons as the program's head coach.
Verde led the Cavaliers to consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) titles and appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and 2009.
In 2009, Cabrini jumped out to a 16-shot lead after day one at the conference championship, and held off second-place finishing Keystone College by 19 strokes on day two to win the title. The Cavaliers placed 35th at the NCAA Championship hosted at the PGA Villages in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
In 2008, Verde led the Cavaliers to its first CSAC crown in program history, rallying from a nine-stroke deficit after 18 holes and besting Neumann College. He was named the league’s coach of the year. Cabrini finished 30th at the national championship in Braselton, Ga.
Verde has twice received the CSAC Coach of the Year distinction, also earning the conference’s top coaching accolade in 2005 when the Cavaliers finished second overall at the conference championship. He remains the only coach in program history to claim the league’s coach of the year honor.
Before Verde took over the program heading into the 2000 season, Cabrini hadn't placed in the upper half of the conference since 1993. He brought the Blue & White home third in 2000 and mentored the squad to a second third-place finish in 2002.
Verde headed the men’s golf team at the University of Toronto for sevens seasons (1982-88).
For seven years (1998-05), Verde chaired the Exercise Science Department while also serving as executive director of the Dixon Center. Among other things, he oversaw building operations, the fitness center, intramurals and recreation programs for the campus community.
Verde recently retired after a distinguished career as an associate professor of exercise science and health promotion at Cabrini.
He earned his masters of science and doctorate in preventative medicine and biostatistics from the University of Toronto. Verde received his bachelor of science in biology and biochemistry from Brock University in Ontario.
Verde resides in Wayne, Pa.
