After being named interim head softball coach in November 2015, Sammy Thompson became the full-time head coach in June 2016.
She is also in her sixth year as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team, as well as a building supervisor of the Dixon Athletic Center, in 2017-18.
Thompson led the Cavaliers to a 22-12 overall record and their fifth consecutive appearance in the CSAC Tournament Championship Round in 2018. The Bue and White built its success on the nation's sixth ranked batting average (.365) and an offense that scored 7.5 runs per game, 11th in Division III.
In her first official season, Thompson led the Cavaliers back to the final day of the CSAC Tournament, before ending the season with a 19-23 overall record, including 15-7 in the conference. The Blue and White were led by senior Lindsay Savar, who was named CSAC amd ECAC South Player of the Year after breaking the program record for career home runs, Â
Thompson made the most of her season as interim head coach, leading the Cavaliers to a third consecutive appearance in the CSAC championship game. Led by 2016 CSAC Pitcher of the Year Jess Giordano and NFCA All-East Region First Team performer Christine Ferraro, Thompson and the Blue and White posted a 25-18 overall record, including 19-3 in league play.
No stranger to Cabrini softball, Thompson was the starting shortstop on Cabrini's softball team for four years. Thompson established herself as one of the top hitters in program history, posting a career batting average of .317 with 158 hits, including 31 doubles and 12 triples. Â
A three-time All-CSAC honoree, Thompson started 149 of 150 career games, posing 29 steals in 34 attempts.
A standout dual sport student-athlete, Thompson is one of the most respected women’s soccer players in the program's history. She was a four year All-CSAC center midfielder and was selected to the NSCAA All-Region Team in 2011. Thompson finished her career #6 on the school's all-time scoring list.
The two-year captain led the Cavaliers to over 50 wins during her career on the pitch, including two conference championships and two NCAA tournament appearances.
Thompson was named to the CSAC All-Academic Team seven times during her career, as well as being named to the Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Academic Team in 2011. She was also named Cabrini Athletics Most Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete in 2012.
After her career as a player, Thompson moved into the coaching ranks, spending one year former head coach Lisa McGregor and a year with current head coach Mitchell Kline.
In her four seasons as a women's soccer assistant coach, the Cavaliers have claimed four Colonial States Athletic Conference championships.
Thompson graduated from Cabrini in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science & Health Promotion.
The Interboro High School grad lives in King of Prussia with her pet pig Ellie.
