Rod Johnson begins his seventh year as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers in 2022-23.

Johnson is a former All-American infielder at Temple, who helped lead the Owls to the College World Series in 1977.

Playing for legendary coach Skip Wilson, Johnson batted .399 in his career. In 1978, he was named a second team All-American, AACBC first team All-East selection, as well as the ECC Player of the Year.

Following his senior year, Johnson was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1979 and was named the organization's Minor League Rookie of the Year that same season. He played in the Reds system from 1979-82.

In six seasons under Johnson's tutelage, the Cavalier defense has led the conference in double plays turned and has ranked either 1st or 2nd in fielding percentage. 

Johnson served as the senior assistant coach at Villanova University for 13 seasons where he led defenses that ranked at or near the top of the Big East in fielding percentage. He currently resides in Pottstown with his wife Ginger and daughter Kelly.
