RADNOR, Pa. (Sept. 6) -- Freshman forward Sabina DeGisi scored both goals for Cabrini Wednesday, but her 12-foot dribbler went just wide with three minutes to go as the host Cavaliers fell 3-2 to Rutgers-Camden in the first on-campus night game in school history.
With a new Sprinturf field to play on and new light towers to play under, Cabrini (1-2) took a 2-1 lead when DeGisi scored twice just 65 seconds apart in the 17th and 18th minutes. But it was another freshman, Jessica Leoni of Rutgers-Camden (3-0), who wound up the hero by scoring the tying goal in the 37th minute and the game-winner 10 minutes into the second half.
Cabrini goalie Lea Conti had six saves, two of them on diving stops of wide-open blasts by Tina Mascia in the opening minutes. She also robbed Leoni late in the first half. Rutgers-Camden scored first when Aubree McDermott slid a rebound to fellow senior Katie O'Connor, who tapped it in 12 minutes into the game. Just six minutes later, DeGisi had Cabrini on top with her back-to-back goals.
